Window On Wine is authored by West London based oenophile Sarah Ball
That’s me to the right*…well sort of!
I’ve enjoyed and been curious about wine ever since my Dad had numerous Boots wine kits bubbling away on our boiler as a I was growing up. My memory is a bit hazy from back then but I seem to remember that the blackberry was a big hit…the grapefruit and pineapple less so. Although I recall it did double very effectively as paint stripper!
In my early teens I was lucky enough to travel in Europe with my Dad, and although I was strictly underage I was allowed a few sips of vino with dinner and thus I was introduced to Chianti and Frascati and why Spätleses were special.
Since those days my interest has been in wine terms – maturing.
After a decade and a half with one of the UK’s leading broadcasters I’ve taken the plunge and have decided to transform my hobby into my job!
My enthusiasm is now coupled with some formal qualifications. An Advanced Level Certification from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust.
During that course – and this is typical I’m led to believe – I discovered how much I didn’t know about the world of wine. I’m now relishing shrinking that knowledge gap through research…and tasting.
I believe wine should be enjoyed and explored and that’s what I want to share with my readers. I hope we can open new windows on wine together!
As well as writing about wine on this site, I also organise informal but informative tasting events in and around London. You can read more on the Tasting Events page.
The opinions expressed on this site are mine…Apart from the occasional comments I quote from The Analyst and The Mothership.
The Analyst is my enthusiastically carnivorous, economics-loving other half, who has a slightly sweeter palate than mine.
The Mothership is my mathematically and musically gifted Mum, who always has an eye for a bargain.
